January 2022

Dear Sir or Madam,

Toni Technik wishes you a happy and prosperous new year 2022. We would like to thank all our customers and partners worldwide for their continued trust during the past challenging months. Despite the sometimes adverse circumstances, the past year has been successful for Toni Technik and we are looking forward to the future.

With this newsletter we would like to draw your attention once again to what we consider to be the most important events of the past year. This includes a look back at the testXpo in October 2021, which, after a break, could now take place again as a face-to-face event. We want to present the progress we are making in the metal industry with our ToniPERM and our powder compaction machine. Finally, we introduce you to our representative Altmann S.A., our strategic partner in Brazil, with whom we have been working during the last 25 years.

Welcome to our newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading this issue!

For this new year, we wish you all the best and much success in your professional and private life.
Stay healthy!

testXpo 2021

From 11 to 15 October 2021, we again had the opportunity to participate in testXpo 2021. Partners and customers from different parts of the world came to our booth to personally learn about the latest developments at Toni Technik. Among other countries, we had the pleasure to share our latest results with our partners from Spain, Argentina, Algeria, Czech Republic and India.

In addition to our general focus on building materials and their quality testing, we have expanded our product range to applications in various other industries. Here are some of the examples:

  • Steel manufacturers around the globe – ToniPERM and steel powder pressing.
  • Entry into the pharmaceutical industry with ToniPERM.
  • Aluminum compressibility testing in the automotive industry.
  • New development for the 3D concrete printing industry.

In case you didn't have a chance to visit our booth, we have prepared a 3D version for you here: Toni Technik - TestXpo 3D Stand

Toni Technik sends you its warmest regards and hopes to see you again this year at testXpo 2022

How does ToniPERM II determine the fineness?

Trulli

The air permeability tester ToniPERM II is designed for the determination of the specific surface of powders, especially suitable for the permanent control of manufacturing characteristics in daily laboratory work. Originally developed to measure the fineness of cement and other cementitious materials, the ToniPERM II is now widely applied in the metal industry, among other applications.

Working principle: The fineness of a powder sample is determined by measuring the time, a defined amount of  air needs to flow through the sample. Vacuum is generated by the help of a diaphragm pump and the time is measured by means of a U-tube manometer equipped with photoelectric sensors.

Determining the fineness plays a key role in pelletizing for steelmakers

The pelletizing stage of steel making requires the fineness value, measured in cm2/g, that affects the balling process. A preferred Blaine value range before the balling process is between 1800 and 2000 cm2/g. An inappropriate Blaine value affects the homogeneity, quality and uniformness of the produced steel pellets. The fineness, therefore, needs to be checked before and after the dry grinding process.

Steel plants, iron ore plants, mining companies and research and development organizations measure the fineness to produce high quality pellets with a defined Cold Crushing Strength (CCS). Lesser fineness results in green pellets with weaker CCS due to the higher apparent porosity which makes the pellets highly brittle and generates more dust and fines during reduction. Higher fineness results in green pellets with higher CCS due to lesser apparent porosity which requires high induration temperature and high load requirement during the reduction process resulting in energy wastage. Therefore, optimum defined fineness measurement is important for the manufacturers.

Our partner in Brazil: Altmann S.A

In Brazil, Toni Technik is represented by Altmann S.A as a partner, with Tomas Altmann as CEO and further 25 employees.

With over 85 years of experience in the analytical equipment market, the company has a technical and commercial team that primarily serves the entire Brazilian territory from its headquarters in São Paulo/SP.

As Brazil is one of the 10 largest cement producers in the world, the partnership between Toni Technik and Altmann has existed for over 25 years and continues to grow. Although, faced with different periods of difficult economic situations, Altmann together with Toni Technik have placed in the market among others: 300 kN compression testing machines, automatic Vicat ToniSET Compact and ToniPerm automatic Blaine instruments.

Since in-person events were not possible during the pandemic, Altmann stepped up its social media to promote and publicize its work in the industry - with success. The technical staff has not stopped servicing equipment, maintaining the company's reputation and contributing to further growth.

Finally, we would like to thank Altmann S.A for its active participation in the digital trade fair Construção 4.0 para América Latina in April 2021 and the constant support in Brazil.

Kind regards
